Frequently Asked Questions

If I can actually see someone committing a crime, shouldn’t I call the police?
Calling the police should be your first priority if you are in danger or a crime is occurring and there is a chance that the offenders are still in the area.
What about in cases of domestic violence?
Welfare Checks are not designed to be a replacement for the Police. Domestic violence is a crime and police should be called for attendance.
When should I call for a Welfare Check?
For all other times that you are feeling nervous and you just want someone to come to your house and make sure you are secure.
What happens when I call for a Welfare Check?
Your call will be taken by a Senior Patrol Officer in the control car. Once your subscription number is given, the control car will notify the designated area Security Patrol Officer who will respond by immediately proceeding to your premises.
What happens when the Patrol Officer gets to my house?
The patrol officer will initially check on your welfare by identifying himself at your door and requesting visual proof of your welfare. Then he will proceed to conduct a foot patrol of the external perimeter of your property before checking all points of entry to your house and ensuring that all doors and windows are secure.
Will the patrol officer enter my house?
No. The Patrol officer is unable to enter your premises.
What if I do not answer the door?
One of the primary tasks of the patrol officer is to visually check your current welfare. Failing to open the door may result in the patrol officer escalating the check and assume that you may be in danger and the police will be called.
Can I buy more vouchers?
Included in the twelve (12) month subscription is five (5) welfare checks. These are valid for the term of your subscription. More vouchers can be purchased and are only valid under the existing subscription. Please contact Darling Downs Security for further information regarding additional vouchers.

Can a relative or friend use the service?
The subscription is valid only to the household of the Subscriber. If you have authorized a person who is staying at your house to use the vouchers, then they can use the service at their discretion.
How long will the officer be at my house?
The Patrol Officer will thoroughly check the external perimeter of your property before conducting a check on all points of entry to ensure all doors and windows are secure. The designated time for the Welfare Check will be up to ten minutes. Any time over this allocated time will require a subsequent voucher to be submitted to the Patrol Officer for each ten minute period beyond this time frame.
